Suddenly

Suddenly

“Suddenly, a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased” Luke 2:13&14 NIV

Every year as Christmas Eve rolls around I find myself always overwhelmed with a word or a few words from the Christmas Story or a song lyric from a Christmas song. This year, sitting in worship on Christmas Eve just one word hit me as the Christmas Story was being read to all the children on stage.

Suddenly.

In that moment, do we realize that Jesus is a Savior who was fully man and is fully God. In a moment, everything changed with His arrival. This moment in Luke Two all of Heaven leaned over the rails to watch God’s only Son depart from His Throne in Heaven to come to earth.

All of history was changed, suddenly. In a moment… in an instant… everything changed! When God shows up, everything changes. During this time of the year, while many of us are celebrating, it’s easy to forget that this time of the year also represents past hurts, present pain, and a future without hope.

Suddenly isn’t just for the angels, shepherds, and animals gathered at the manger that day. It’s for all of us. As this year draws to a close, suddenly is for you. For many of us, like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights, our Jesus is stuck in the manger. You remember his prayer…”Dear 8 pound, 6-ounce newborn infant Jesus,”

I am so grateful for every one of you that read my posts, listens to my podcast, and that follows me on social media. My hope and prayer for you this season as we celebrate the birth of a Savior and one year coming to a close, and a new one beginning that you experience the change that occurs when Jesus shows up in your life and everything changes.

This past year has been full of moments where suddenly everything changed. There is good news regardless of how stuck you feel, or how bad things seem to be going, that suddenly everything can change.

There are things we can control, and there are things we can’t and those which we can I challenge you in this last week of the year to make those changes in a moment. Just one decision that you make will change everything. I pray that the year ahead would be more about being resolute and less about resolutions.
