Everything is going to be Ok

On March 13, 1928, Walt Disney was boarding a train from New York just having received the news that Charles Mintz and Universal Pictures had ended up getting the rights to his beloved Oswald The Lucky Rabbit character.

Walt headed west sending his brother Roy a telegram telling him not to worry. An average person would have quit. Walt was not average. He had this idea for a mouse, that in his mind he named Mortimer. The story goes that he sketched out Mickey on a napkin or a scrap of paper crossing the county on that train ride.

Two significant things happened on that train ride.

  1. Walt refused to quit and just accept defeat. He understood that he was just one idea away….
  2. He listened to his wife Lillian who had thought Mickey would be a better name.

Let’s not just celebrate the birth of Mickey, but every one of us that has someone that is on the train ride with us that won’t let us settle, that won’t us have a lousy idea, and who won’t let us quit.

If everything seems bad today, just remember you’re just one idea away…and everything will be ok.
